Outdoor Education Week
Host: Outdoor Education Australia

Theme: The inaugural Outdoor Education Week aims to raise public awareness of how Outdoor Education helps individuals learn about themselves, the people in the groups with whom they work and about the environment that they are spending time in.

  • Register your school, organisation or centre for the Postcard campaign
  • Create your own Outdoor Education Week event and share it on our Google Map
  • Promote your event/outdoor education experience in the local media
  • Participate in the Guinness Book of World Records Orienteering attempt
2 Sept 10 Orienteering World Record Attempt

The orienteering world record we are attempting to
break was set on 23 May 2003 when a total of
207,979 pupils from 1,381 schools across Switzerland
took part in a multi-venue orienteering event
organised by the Swiss Orienteering Association.

Can Australia beat that? We think so!
The Australian record attempt will happen on
Thursday 2nd September, 2010
as part of Outdoor Education Week.

Theme: Always wanted to be in the Guinness Book of World Records? Now is your chance!

How Will They Do It ?
At each participating school/outdoor education centre or organisation around the country a ten marker orienteering course/event will be set up and students will navigate their way around this competition course.
 
How Is It Measured? What Is The Record Based On?
Each student will complete a formal registration form. These will be collected and collated by the head teacher/instructor at the school or centre. They will then tally their results which will be entered onto Outdoor Education Week website.

Theme: The forum will provide professional development and networking opportunities to adventure and nature based businesses, local government, key agencies and the wider tourism industry.

The objectives of the forum are to:

  • Provide a forum to discuss key issues facing the adventure and nature-based tourism sectors and ask questions of the people involved with initiating industry changes

26-29 Sept 10 International Camp Directors Course (ICDC)
Host: Australian Camps Association

Theme: The ICDC has been run in Nth America for some years providing formal training for campsite managers to assist and support professional development and awareness of current standards and procedures.

The curriculum has been reviewed/revised over the years for American delivery and has now been modified to be relevant and suited to Australian situations and standards.

In 2009 a pilot program was run to identify the curriculum value as a professional development tool and determine the ongoing value/support for the program. Based on its success this team of instructors have again offered their services to provide a second course in 2010.The course goals are to:-

# Present the basics of camp management in the core areas of the organized body of knowledge

# Expand their network of peers and develop a community of professionals in a "camp like" atmosphere

# Provide an introduction to self-directed learning and the participants' role in their professional development process

Theme: Held biennially, this event showcases Sydney's beautiful Cumberland State Forest, and brings all things "forest" to the people of Sydney in a colourful, fun-filled day out for people of all ages. Attracting more than 5.000 people exhibiting at the Fair is free to community groups and a nominal site fee is charged to commercial exhibitors.
