New Private Water Supply Guidelines (back to topics)

NSW Health has released the Private Water Supply Guidelines, which set out the responsibilities of operators of private water supplies and aims to assist them in providing a safe water supply (ie. premises that are not served by a public water utility). Such premises include caravan parks, guesthouses, camp and recreational facilities.

These Guidelines have been developed in response to a number of disease outbreaks attributed to such supplies over the last 20 years, and provide information to private water supply operators on how to ensure that they provide a safe water supply to consumers. The Guidelines recommend that operators adopt a risk management approach to managing their water supplies; this requires the preparation of a water supply management plan.

A copy of the Guidelines and a DVD (that presents information for operators to assist with following the Guidelines) will be mailed out to appropriate ORIC members, or you may request them by phoning or emailing the ORIC office. The Guidelines are also available for download at NSW Health

Are you an Outdoor Leader? Important research you can be a part of (back to topics)

If you are a current outdoor leader who spends considerable time working in the field, Eric Brymer and Cathryn Carpenter of Victoria University, together with Tonia Gray (University Woolongong) and Wayne Cotton (University Sydney) would like your input. "Given today's focus on the state of the environment it will be interesting to determine if outdoor education has a large role to play in the development of leaders who have a positive relationship to the natural world - which of course has larger links into the development of ecologically sound leaders in business as well as the development of sustainable practices and so on.”

The aim of this project is to explore transformational leadership as appropriate for understanding outdoor leadership, and explore outdoor leader's ecological perspectives. It is hopted that this model might add further insight into leadership and how to better prepare leaders for ecologically sound work in the outdoors and beyond.

If this project sound interesting to you, Eric would appreciate 20 minutes of your time completing the online survey. Please click here

Current Liability and Insurance Market (back to topics)

Remember the time when insurers were increasing prices, imposing even higher excesses and reducing conditions significantly IF you could get the cover you needed? Senior personnel at Phillips have been asked about the reasons for this significant shift – and in simple terms it was a case of demand far outstripping supply in a market place.
